ODEMI has not paid back the loan from Tribal Council to them in 2015 that was told they would pay back in 2018. AND no payments have been made to the Tribe. YES this is true.
During 2015, OEDMI requested and received a $585,000 advance from the Tribe to make sanitary sewer system improvements at a property development site in Petoskey, Michigan. The advance was scheduled to be repaid in May 2018 with no interest charged. As of the date of this report, no payments have been made on the advance. OEDMI expects to repay its obligation related to the advance once the development related to the SAVC becomes operational.
Under Waganakising Odawak Statute 2009-024 “Odawa Economic Development Management”, which authorized OEDMI to be a tribally chartered corporation, OEDMI was assigned certain 16 assets and such assets shall be held by OEDMI on behalf of the Tribe and shall be managed to provide long term revenue for Tribal governmental programs and activities. In keeping with this statute, distributions of OEDMI’s retained earnings are periodically made to the Tribe. No distributions of OEDMI’s retained earnings were made to the Tribe in 2020.
